Abstract: International audience ; The site of La Peyrouse (Saint-Félix-de-Villadeix, Dordogne) was discovered in 2014 by C. Chevillot. The archaeological operations carried out since then confirm the existence of a vast open agglomeration with an artisanal and commercial vocation and occupied from the 3rd centu-ry BC to the 2nd century AD. The settlement of La Peyrouse probably owes its location and economic development to two main factors: on the one hand, the existence of a major long-distance land road (Périgueux to Agen) which borders the site and, on the other hand, to the significant iron mining resources in the vicinity. In order to gain a more precise understanding of the extent, organization and environ-ment of the site, geophysical surveys were carried out from 2019 onwards as part of the RAP-SODIE project. These have improved our understanding of the site. They confirmed the exist-ence of a dense occupation, extending over several hectares. They also revealed, at the summit of the site, a large quadrangular building with sides measuring c. 25 m. The excavation campaign of 2020, which targeted the eastern part of this structure, confirms the religious function of the building. From pedestrian to geophysical surveys, this article provides an overview of the ongoing research. More specifically, it presents a synthesis of the results of the first excavation campaign on the sanctuary of La Peyrouse, the first documented to date in Aquitaine.
