More than half of this article has been copied verbatim, without authorization, from the article: ‘Higiene pública contra higiene privada: cólera, limpieza y poder en La Habana colonial’, published by Adrian López Denis in Estudios Interdisciplinarios de América Latina y el Caribe Vol. 14, No. 1 (January-June, 2003) pp. 11-33. The Editors of ERLACS accepted the article by Dr Aguilera-Manzano in good faith. They extend their apologies to Dr Lopez-Denis for this most unfortunate breach of publication ethics.
