Abstract: The article focuses on the analysis of the textbook School practices, by Antonio ’Ávila, composed of three volumes, published in successive editions from 1940 to 1966, by Saraiva Press in São Paulo. The goal is to understand the process of incorporation of the pedagogical conceptions of the Progressive School in the prescriptions of the pedagogical practice. It emphasizes: organization of a consensual speech in which public policies, teachers’ formation and plans of consolidated professional performance interfere, social goals for the school in different degrees, translation and adaptation of principles to the different subjects, creation of mediation devices to its effectiveness.
