    • Abstract:
When Lyon switched to the Catholic League in February 1589, the League leaders relied on individuals whose commitment to the League was unwavering. The links between these individuals formed networks that spread throughout the city so that the Catholic League members who became the heads of Lyon’s municipal institutions could maintain their influence over the population and stay in power. This article focuses on the actions of these members, their networks and their organization to understand why they joined the Catholic League and how they formed factions, adhering to political ideas disseminated through a constructed discourse. The methods used to relate these individuals and to define the types of links they had with each other were diverse, from prosopography to egocentric analysis. These methods make it possible to shed light on the competition between the League factions on the political scene, and in particular within the Lyon Consulate, which became the place of tension par excellence between the different League groups. Meanwhile we need to understand the organization and the extent of the various types of networks, whether it is a noble network or a family network or even socio-professional one ,once these networks understood, we can define the different league factions and their influence in the city, we also can understand the organization of the Catholic League of Lyon, its political turning points and its fractures, from the tipping of the city into the Catholic League in February 1589 to its return to royal authority in February 1594, through the confinement of the governor of Lyon in September 1593.
