Abstract: Hospitality management presents a viable and sustainable venture for retirees in Nigeria, offering opportunities for economic engagement, social relevance, and personal fulfillment in post-service life. This study explores the potential of the hospitality sector as a retirement plan, analyzing the motivations, preparedness, and challenges retirees face when transitioning into hospitality-based enterprises. Drawing on interviews with selected retirees, as well as data from small-scale hospitality businesses across selected Nigerian states, the study highlights the role of entrepreneurship training, access to capital, and regulatory frameworks in shaping successful retirement ventures. The findings suggest that hospitality management can serve as a productive post-retirement pathway, especially when supported by policy interventions and structured capacity-building initiatives. The study contributes to discourse on retirement planning, ageing, and sustainable entrepreneurship in developing economies.
