    • Abstract:
This planned qualitative study aims to explore the lived experiences of Kenyan university students with disabilities, with a focus on their citizenship in education. Citizenship is an inclusionary social institution which categorizes societal membership and relationship between the individual and the society. Thus, a citizen is an agent with a capacity to make individual choices and participate in decision-making processes of the society. The elements of citizenship considered in this study are the students’ security, autonomy, and influence. Theoretical sampling will be used to obtain participants for the study. The study will adopt the Grounded Theory approach, and semi-structured life-course interviews will be used to generate qualitative data from the participants. Data analysis will be by qualitative content analysis. The expectation of the study is to use the findings to seek for appropriate mitigation strategies that would improve the performance and transition rates of learners with disabilities across all levels of education in Kenya.
