Abstract: ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān ’s understanding of modernity as an objective essence, “as valuesand principles”, common to every culture and nation, with ceaselessly changing expressionthroughout history, makes a path toward Islamic modernity with its unique historicalexperience and spiritual tradition. Therefore, the role of translation is crucial for thepreservation of tradition and reconnection with the past as well as its constant renewal, andas a relevant aspect of the conceptualization of modernity.
