El presente artículo de investigación pretende identificar la influencia que tiene la Inversión Extranjera directa en la industria manufacturera del Ecuador. Por eso, el objetivo de estudio es analizar la relación causal entre la captación de inversión extranjera y el crecimiento de la industria manufacturera durante el periodo 2010-2021. La metodología utilizada se basó en un examen exhaustivo de la literatura, tomando como referencia el artículo “¿La inversión extranjera directa influye en el crecimiento del sector manufacturero en la región de Medio Oriente y África del Norte?”. El alcance del estudio es descriptivo, así como explicativo, empleando pruebas de raíz unitaria, un modelo econométrico VECM y el test de Granger. Los hallazgos demuestran que la industria ha atravesado períodos de rápido crecimiento impulsados por el aumento de las ventas en el extranjero, la demanda interna y las contribuciones financieras externas. Sin embargo, también ha sufrido incertidumbres políticas, económicas y de sanitarias (COVID-19). El análisis econométrico permite concluir que hay un impacto positivo y sustancial de la inversión extranjera directa (IED) en el crecimiento de la industria manufacturera, tanto a largo como a corto plazo.
This research paper aims to identify the influence of Foreign Direct Investment on Ecuador’s manufacturing industry. Therefore, the objective of the study is to analyze the causal relationship between the capture of foreign investment and the growth of the manufacturing industry during the period 2010-2021. The methodology used was based on a thorough review of the literature, taking as a reference the article “Does foreign direct investment influence the growth of the manufacturing sector in the Middle East and North Africa region?”. The scope of the study is descriptive as well as explanatory, using unit root tests, a VECM econometric model and the Granger test. The findings show that the industry has gone through periods of rapid growth driven by increased foreign sales, domestic demand and external financial contributions. However, it has also suffered from political, economic and health uncertainties (COVID-19). Econometric analysis allows us to conclude that there is a positive and substantial impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the growth of manufacturing industry, both in the long term and in the short term.
Este trabalho de pesquisa visa a identificar a influência que o investimento estrangeiro direto tem sobre o setor manufatureiro do Equador. Portanto, o objetivo do estudo é analisar a relação causal entre a atração de investimento estrangeiro e o crescimento do setor manufatureiro durante o período de 2010 a 2021. A metodologia utilizada baseou-se em uma revisão abrangente da literatura, tendo como referência o artigo "Does foreign direct investment influence manufacturing sector growth in the MENA region?". O escopo do estudo é descritivo e explicativo, empregando testes de raiz unitária, um modelo econométrico VECM e o teste de Granger. Os resultados mostram que o setor passou por períodos de rápido crescimento impulsionados pelo aumento das vendas externas, da demanda interna e das contribuições financeiras externas. No entanto, também sofreu com as incertezas políticas, econômicas e de saúde (COVID-19). A análise econométrica leva à conclusão de que há um impacto positivo e substancial do investimento estrangeiro direto (IED) no crescimento do setor manufatureiro, tanto no longo quanto no curto prazo.
