Importancia de equipos de protección personal en prevención de lesiones y enfermedades ocupacionales: industria minera

The objective of the research is to evaluate the relationship between the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the risk of occupational injuries and diseases in workers of a mining company in the sector of Congüime, Zamora Chinchipe, Ecuador. Descriptive research with correlational scope was used in a population of 40 workers. According to the results, a high level of compliance in the use of PPE was observed, correlated with a lower frequency of occupational incidents. In addition, the type of injury was found to be linked to proper or inadequate use of PPE during an incident. The research highlights the importance of a safety culture in the workplace and the need for effective training on the correct use of PPE to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses in the mining industry.
El objetivo de la investigación consiste en evaluar la relación entre el uso de equipos de protección personal (EPP) y el riesgo de lesiones y enfermedades ocupacionales en los trabajadores de una empresa minera en el sector de Congüime, Zamora Chinchipe, Ecuador. Se utilizó una investigación de tipo descriptiva con alcance correlacional en una población de 40 trabajadores. Según los resultados, se observó un alto cumplimiento en el uso de EPP, correlacionado con una menor frecuencia de incidentes laborales. Además, se encontró que el tipo de lesión estaba vinculado al empleo adecuado o no de EPP durante un incidente. La investigación destaca la importancia de una cultura de seguridad en el lugar de trabajo y la necesidad de una capacitación efectiva sobre el uso correcto de EPP para prevenir lesiones y enfermedades ocupacionales en la industria minera.
