Rivalité inter-urbaine et aménagement touristique.: L'exemple de Sheffield (Royaume-Unis)

Inter-urban rivalry and tourism planning. There are few published assessments of tourism planning in industrial cities. This paper considers the achievements and limitations to tourism planning in Sheffield. Evaluation is made of the political commitment to tourism, the relative importance of strategic planning for tourism and the problems of the tourism product mix in the city. Sheffield's tourism planning is related to the increasing competition and rivalry between industrial cities.
La planification touristique des villes industrielles a fait l'objet de peu d'évaluations publiées. Cet article présente les réalisations et les limites de la planification touristique à Sheffield. Il évalue l'engagement politique de la ville pour le tourisme, l'importance relative de la planification stratégique du tourisme et les problèmes liés aux produits touristiques. La planification touristique de Sheffield est mise en relation avec la concurrence croissante et la rivalité entre villes industrielles.
