Les carrières de calcaire dites 'du Stade' et 'du Logari' à Delphes (2020)

The cleaning of the ‘Stadium’ and ‘Logari’ quarries in Delphi took place from October 19 to 23, 2020, and was followed by a week of survey and data collection from October 26 to 31, 2020. The study was completed by observations in May 2021 (on units 6 and 8 of the Stadium quarry). The two quarries were recorded via aerial photogrammetry, which will make it possible to draw the plan of the quarries and to model the data. An identification protocol had been established in part on the basis of the work of Jean Claude Bessac on ancient and medieval limestone quarries in France, in order to carry out the detailed study of the extraction traces. The analysis of these traces and the structure of the quarries will make it possible to understand the extraction process and the strategies of exploitation, taking into account the constraints imposed on the quarriers by the local topography. We provide here a synthesis of our observations and first results.
